Group Therapy

Therapeutic group for Carers

The Harbour is currently running a therapeutic group for Carers which is now full. We are planning to run another one from September 2012. These groups are free of charge, will meet once a week, and are open to anyone who looks after someone with a life threatening illness.

The Harbour sees many clients who are carers, and many report feeling very isolated. Others might feel overwhelmed with anxiety and thoughts about the future, and it can be hard to talk about with family and friends. A group can help people recognise they are not alone, and offers an opportunity to explore and understand your feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

This group will draw on individuals’ life experiences as a way to help people make sense of what they are facing. It will help participants to communicate more effectively, and this is something to take with you into relationships in every day life, with family, friends and colleagues. As a result participants can feel more supported by those around them, which reduces stress and makes the experience more bearable.
