About Us

The Harbour was established in 1991, by a psychotherapist Jill Brown, and we are located in a town house in central Bristol. We provide professional counselling and psychotherapy, free of charge, for people affected by a physical life-threatening illness.  To the best of our knowledge, The Harbour’s service is unique in the South of England. It is delivered by qualified and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists, and adheres to The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Code of Ethics and Practice.

We provide counselling and psychotherapy services to over 130 people each year. The counselling relationship can last from 3 months up to 2 years depending on the client’s needs.

Information for Students

We offer a small number of placements to students of counselling and psychotherapy who are in an advanced stage of training. Although unpaid, students benefit from regular high quality supervision and a senior clinical therapist oversees placement students. It is an opportunity to develop skills and experience while bringing your own skills to support a very vulnerable client group. In order to ensure a high quality of therapeutic work for all our clients, we have a careful selection process for prospective student or volunteer placements. Please email: info@the-harbour.co.uk for more information.
